Spontaneous Trip to Tupi's Sunflower Field - How to Get There
At around 8:30
in the morning, I woke up to a phone bombarded with text messages and Twitter direct
messages from some of my friends. And just like that, in a snap, we were bound
for Tupi, South Cotabato to check out the now-famous “Sunflower Fields Down
South”.
The spontaneous travel squad minus me (because I was the one who took this photo. HAHA!) |
Located at Purok
3A, Tupi, the Blooming Petals Agri-Tourism Park is the first of its kind here
in SOCCSKSARGEN. The new tourist attraction does not only boast of its radiant
and aesthetic sunflowers, it is also known for its fresh produce sold in their
pasalubong area. You may even pick-and-pay your own vegetables. Plus! You can
also buy sunflowers cut fresh from their garden.
How to get there:
For commuters from General Santos City:
1.) Ride a bus
from Bulaong Terminal to Tupi Transport Terminal. Fare ranges from 47php (for
students and senior citizens) to not more than 60php. Getting there will only take
you less than an hour (including the bus stops).
2.) From the
transport terminal, ride a tricycle to Blooming Petals, Inc. There’s actually
nothing to worry about since the drivers around are already familiar with the
place. As soon as you step out of the bus, you’ll be surrounded by drivers
asking “Blooming, ma’am?”. Tricycle ride will cost you 20php, and you’ll
get there in more or less 10 minutes.
For those with private vehicles:
Getting there won’t be much of a hassle. From the national
highway, take a turn to where you will see the “Blooming Petals” tarpaulin. Go
straight ahead, and you will see another sign telling you to turn left. Just
follow the arrows and you’ll get to the entrance of the park.
Once you get
there, enjoy the ”touristy” feels, and take as much photos as you want
for your Facebook and Instagram feeds (LOL!). Just keep in mind the Leave No
Trace philosophy. Take nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints. Kill
nothing but time.
Blooming Petals Agri-Tourism Park is open from 9AM to 6PM daily until June 16. After the 16th, (edit: there will be no more sunflower field and) the park will only open on weekends. This is to give them time to replant and prepare for the park's next opening this year, tentatively on September. For more information, you may check their Facebook page or contact them at 09189359352. Entrance fee ranges from 20php for kids to 30php for adults.
